Infrastructure and Transportation

Since our beginnings in Miami in 1946, Broad and Cassel's lawyers have been actively involved in infrastructure and transportation projects throughout Florida. Founders Shepard Broad and Alvin Cassel were instrumental to the explosive growth of South Florida, including the development of several municipalities such as Bay Harbor Islands. In recognition of his pre-eminent role, even today one of the principal causeways linking Miami to the islands in Biscayne Bay and Miami Beach, the Shepard Broad Causeway, bears our Founder's name.

Since then, our attorneys have and currently serve as general counsel to some of the largest transportation authorities in the State, serve as chairs or board members of various authorities, and are actively involved in the public and private infrastructure and transportation sectors, including numerous public-private partnerships (P3s). Several of our attorneys have an extensive international practice, with infrastructure projects located throughout South America, including toll road concessions, airports, power plants and other major works.

Our lawyers possess experience in all aspects of project development, commencing with planning, financing and government affairs, through to policy development, procurement and contracting, and culminating in project implementation, close-out and dispute resolution. Broad and Cassel attorneys have been actively involved in some of the largest infrastructure projects in the State of Florida from start to finish. We serve the public sector on roadway systems, aviation, ports, rail, water management districts, schools, energy and telecommunications. Our private sector experience ranges from DRIs, multi-use developments and residential, to hospital, private education and business infrastructure improvements. We are also on the forefront of connecting the public and private sectors to build partnering plans for the financing and implementation of major projects.

Broad and Cassel has also been involved in composing dispute resolution policies and procedures for major infrastructure projects, including multi-tiered dispute processes and dispute resolution boards. Several of our attorneys are Board Certified Construction Attorneys and Construction Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association. In litigation is necessary, Broad and Cassel has been involved in some of the most complex and significant trial matters in Florida. We have successfully litigated for clients disputes ranging from airport development, terminal expansion and runway projects, to flood control management systems for the Everglades, roadway construction, and major eminent domain matters.
