Arvin Jaffe Serves as Judge in National Competition

Arvin Jaffe, a partner in the Boca Raton office, recently served as a judge for a national competition of 29 teams of Jewish high school students. Each team presented their written and oral arguments on a case involving a daughter's election of one of three options for medical treatment available to her father who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. The competition, known as Moot Beit Din (Hebrew for "court"), was sponsored by RAVSAK, which is the umbrella organization for 130+ Jewish community day schools in North America. The students researched traditional and modern texts, including responsa, and submitted written briefs to the judges in advance of oral argument. Then, during the competition, the teams defended their decisions before a panel of judges. Mr. Jaffe served with two other judges in the advanced division, where six teams presented their arguments. The team from a Montreal high school was awarded first place in that division.
